5th Season meets Invicta - Invicta meets German beer (English version)

Von Michael Hag

Since some time already a contact was made to the Invicta Chapter from Canterbury (Kent, UK) but nevertheless we were surprised that an English chapter chose our lovely city of Cologne as their annual season open tour. But what would be the HOG-friendship worth if not immediately the planning team around Birgit started their work.

So we were able to welcome the Invicta chapter on Friday evening in their chapter castle located in Walberberg near Cologne. Our English friends had organized a party including a nice buffet und during that evening we could learn how the English could celebrate. After a partly 600-miles-ride with an astonishing condition! Karaoke was the favourite of the night and so there was a lot of wonderful performances on stage, a lot of talks, a lot of laugh?s and I guess a lot of German beer as well. I?ve heard the last ones finished near to 2.30 am! Respect!

On Saturday everybody could rest a little bit. The Invicta chapter met us at our dealership in Cologne where many member of our chapter welcome our English friends. Shopping and talking were the highlights of the stopover here. Later the chapter was taken by some of our member into downtown Cologne where they did some sightseeing and shopping. The evening was spent in their hotel in Walberberg. I assume with a little rock music, more talks and again more beer. Again, 2.30 am was the marker to beat.

Sunday was totally covered by our day tour through the countryside of the river Rhine valley. We picked up our friends at the hotel early in the morning and our plans were to go via nice little country roads to the fortress Ehrenbreitstein where we wanted to meet. Unfortunately the heavy rain on that morning cancelled our plans and so we drove via the Rhine valley streets more or less directly to Ehrenbreitstein where at 11.30 am all 5 groups met again.

In a perfectly done attack to the guard of the fortress we were able to enter with all bikes the top of the area where we have had a spectacular view about the crossing of the rivers Rhine and Mosel, as well called ?German corner?, a historic site. Many tourists as well found their way to the fortress and so, as usually, many questions regarding Harley had to be answered.

In a common cloud of Milwaukee oil and petrol fume we drove the rest of the tour until Rhens, a small old town located directly at the river Rhine, where a buffet waited to be conquered. In the hotel ?Roter Ochse? we were already nearly 2 months ago on our season opening tour and as well today a wonderful, nice and tasty buffet was already prepared. The service spokes English and so there were no barriers to order what everybody need and wanted.

After having had lunch we drove the small distance to the historic monument ?Königsstuhl? where a chapter photo was taken: 5th Season and Invicta together. I felt a little bit shame not been able to answer all the questions concerning the historic site so I will vote on our next committee meeting to introduce the job of a ?sightseeing officer? to be better prepared next time.

The last stop on our way back was at our Dealer Andreas Binner in Bonn. Andreas and Karl where waiting with cakes and coffee and Birgit organized before a big chapter cake with a photo of our chapter on top. All the girls have had problems to choose between the cakes and Andreas offer of T-Shirts and I guess he was quiet happy with the business he did. And last but not least we do have an new road captain! Let?s welcome Andy Hill, normally director of the Invicta chapter but on that last part of the trip he changed road captain vests with one of our guys. They got unfortunately somehow lost at one of the plenty of traffic lights in Bonn but Andy and his Tom Tom found their way to the dealer perfectly. Well done!!

Somehow the end of these nice and enjoying days was coming and so we brought our friends back to their castle in Walberberg where we wished them a safe and good trip back and hopefully a not too rainy one.

How do you meet new friend? Somehow due to the initiative of a single member as Jens-Uwe or well known as Dyson who, as a German in the UK never lost the contact to Cologne. And sometimes out of the initiative of a single a new, tight and hopefully long-lasting friendship was born between the member of the Invicta Chapter and the 5th Season Chapter. Already timetables were studied and plains were raising in member heads how and when to visit our new friends at their home. Maybe doing a season-opening-ride to the UK? Or participating in the South-of-England-rally? Good reasons are many to visit good old and new friends?.so please do your plans already. Invicta is calling us?..let?s drive to Kent!
